International Evening

One of our favorite events at HCC is our annual International Evening. This is a time when we celebrate the different cultures and countries from which our international church members come: a great way to get to know each other and more about the world at the same time.

We start with a taste from around the world with a potluck (covered dish) meal consisting of favorite entries from each one’s country. The serving tables are arranged with various countries/continents represented in order – so that we can all enjoy a bit of the variety represented.

Then we move on to the program consisting of song, dance, poetry etc from the various countries: short glimpses into cultures from around the world. As we remember the unity we share in Christ, we also enjoy the diversity of our home countries and cultures. All are welcome – bring a friend!

After worship service prayer time / World Day of Prayer 10:45am

March 1 is the date selected for the international World Day of Prayer. This year, the focus is on the country of France and the theme is from Matt 25, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

At HCC we usually have a special focused prayer time after the worship service on the first Friday of the month. So this Friday, March 1, we will include the theme from the World Day of Prayer into our prayer time. There will also be other themes for prayer as the leader designates. All are welcome!

Children’s Christmas Program @ 10:30am

The Children’s Christmas Program has been rescheduled for after the worship service next Friday, February 15, at 10:30am. This change in schedule reflects the ongoing changes in the political and security situation in Heliopolis. We pray for peace and God’s wisdom for all.

Monthly after-worship-service-prayer time

At the beginning of every month, we have an extra hour of focused intercessory prayer after the worship service is completed. All are invited to come aside and spend this time in unity, praise, thanksgiving and various types of prayers. Each month, a different person organizes and leads this hour. All are welcome: please see the bulletin for details.

Women’s Retreat: February 15/16

For all the HCC ladies and teenage girls – mark your calendars for the 2013 Women’s Retreat. This year, we will enjoy our first ever over-nighter retreat. We are encouraged about this as so many had asked for the 1 day retreat to be expanded to overnight. Please see the bulletin for more details.

Hour of focused prayer: 10:45am

Our monthly after-worship-service prayer time will be the 2nd Friday of January, on the 11th. All are invited to stay for this focused hour of prayer. Please see the bulletin for details.

4th Friday of Advent: We light the 4th candle on the Advent Wreath representing “LOVE.”

On December 21 we light the 4th candle on the Advent Wreath. This is a long time tradition for HCC to remember the month leading up to Christmas by reading appropriate scriptures and prayers for the week’s theme and lighting the candles in the wreath. Jesus is the light of the world, and as we get closer to the day marked to remember his birth, more candles are light each week. At HCC, since we meet on Friday’s for our weekly worship service, we observe the Advent weeks from Friday to Friday. This week, we will focus on the theme of LOVE!

Christmas Cantata – January 4 @ 6:30PM

The Christmas Cantata will be presented by the Cleopatra Episcopal Church choir in English on January 4. As you may know, the Western Christian tradition is to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus, on December 25. But the Eastern Christian tradition is to celebrate on January 7. So it is most appropriate that the Christmas Cantata is sung on January 4.

This year, the theme of the cantata is, “Joy to the World.” The cantata has always proved to be an exceptional musical program which is highlighted by listening to the scriptural passages narrating Jesus’ birth and punctuated with choirs and songs and chorus. It is a wonderful evening. All are welcome! Please invite your friends as well.

3rd Friday of Advent: We light the 3rd candle on the Advent Wreath representing “PEACE.”

On December 14 we light the 3rd candle on the Advent Wreath. This week, we will focus on the theme of PEACE!

2nd Friday of Advent: We light the 2nd candle on the Advent Wreath representing “JOY!”

On December 7 we light the 2nd candle on the Advent Wreath. This week, we will focus on the theme of JOY!
