2nd Friday of Advent – Jess our High Priest (The wise men’s gift of frankincense)

The four weeks of Advent are like a journey where we bring our gifts, ask God for discernment, and are prepared and ready to worship Christ at his birth.

HCC is observing Advent; meaning ‘coming’ or ‘arrival.’ During this time, we prepare our hearts and minds to focus on our Lord Jesus Christ’s coming. In Advent we see a threefold coming of the Messiah:
1. A celebration of His first coming – born to Mary as her Son, Jesus.
2. Preparation for His second coming at the end of the world as judge.
3. Celebration of His coming into our hearts through rebirth.

All are welcome to come to our Friday Worship Services during Advent. This week, the Second Advent service will focus on the theme of Jesus our High Priest, as symbolized by the gift of frankincense the wise men brought to honor His birth.

Traditional Christmas Carol Service at the Basilica at 7:30pm

Join us for a Traditional Christmas Carol Service starting at 7:30pm on Wednesday, December 7th. The English language carol service includes scripture readings about the birth of Jesus, the carol sing-a-long, and some special musical numbers. The traditional Christmas carols may be a reminder of Christmas in your home country or a new tradition for those here in Egypt during the Advent.

The carol service will take place in the Basilica of Notre Dame which is located on Al-Aharam Street in Korba, Heliopolis. This is a very large church and there is room for you and all your friends. All are welcome.

1st Friday of Advent – Jesus our King (The wise men’s gift of gold)

The four weeks of Advent are like a journey where we bring our gifts, ask God for discernment, and are prepared and ready to worship Christ at his birth.

HCC will observe Advent (meaning ‘coming’ or ‘arrival’) starting this Friday, November 29, and for the four weeks leading up to Christmas.

This week, the First Advent service will focus on the theme of Jesus our King, as symbolized by the gift of gold that the wise men brought to honor His birth.

International Evening

One of our favorite events here at HCC is our annual International Evening. This year it will be on November 18, starting at 5:30pm in the garden. We sample international foods and then enjoy each other’s cultures buy listening to or watching demos presented by members of our congregation. This is for families, friends, and for the international family in Christ.

We will open our time with a potluck (covered dish meal) where everyone brings a dish native to their home land. There is such a variety of flavors to enjoy from the cooking styles of different countries. Then we move on to short presentations of song, dance or poetry etc. given by people or groups from the different countries represented here at HCC. Some people come wearing their native dress – always colorful!

We are able to enjoy the diversity of cultures while relishing in the unity of our faith and commitment to Christ.

Worship Evening

One of the things that is most appreciated about HCC is the dynamic and varied worship teams that lead the worship here. We do not have a paid worship pastor or leader, but rather a group of gifted, believing leaders who love to lead God’s people in worship. Although each worship team has its own style, they all have a heart to celebrate what Christ has done for us and to glorify, praise and worship with music, song, hymns, scripture readings and prayer.

This time of focused worship is always refreshing and stimulating. All are welcome!

Welcome Potluck

This is an exciting time of year here at HCC. The people who travel for the summer months are all coming back and it’s also when most of the people moving here arrive. As there is a lot of turnover here in the expatriate church, we are always happy to meet the new folks and welcome back those we were missing during the hot summer here.

We plan for the potluck (covered dish meal) to take place in the garden area – it’s usually perfect weather outside on September evenings. This is a great time for fellowship, getting to know the newcomers and becoming better acquainted with others that we see at church, but didn’t have time to “just sit a spell” with.

More details can be found in the weekly bulletin.

Small Group leaders meeting

The small group leaders and other’s interested in small groups will be meeting after the worship service on Friday, September 2nd. This is an exciting time of year at HCC when the small groups that have been on holiday resume meeting and new groups are formed. All interested may see the bulletin for more information.

August Fellowship Event

We are planning for a bit of fellowship and fun out of the sun (read “someplace cool”) on Friday, August 19th, after the worship service. We will meet for potluck lunch, visiting and DVD’s or board games giving us the opportunity to get to know each other better and to enjoy the people God has brought us together with. Please see the bulletin for more details.

Ladies / girls evening

Something special is planned for the HCC ladies and girls! You are invited to come for a girls/ladies night for some visiting, fun, and manicure / pedicure! Please bring your nail file, polish, foot basin (if you want a pedicure) etc. We can literally wash each other’s feet and hands, and buff, polish and bless each other with some tender loving care! We can also encourage each other in all that we talk about: Lift each other up with faith-filled words.
Please see the bulletin for more details.

Farewell Tea

We will have a special Fellowship Tea time on Friday, August 12, after the worship service. We want to say “farewell,” acknowledge and thank a brother who has been deeply involved in helping and leading our youth group this summer. Please bring cookies, cake or finger foods to share. All are welcome!
