3rd Friday of Advent – December 14, 2018

3rd Advent reading – Joy (for December 14, 2018)

“We light the third candle on the Advent Wreath to remember that God gives us Joy.”

Scripture: Isaiah 9:6-7

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.”

The first candle was to highlight preparation and peace, remember the voice crying out in the wilderness, “prepare ye the way of the Lord.”

The second candle was to highlight hope and expectation, recalling God’s promise to send a Savior.

The third candle is to highlight Joy.

Response: May our hearts be forever filled with the joy of His coming.

Prayer: “Father, we are filled with joy because we have hope and peace that you have sent your son for all that believe. Help us to be the voices that proclaim grace and truth. In Christ name we pray. Amen.”
